Eating a variety of foods important for health

Eating as wide a variety of foods as possible is important

Chefs of inspirational recipes may be wondering how best to ensure their menu offers customers enough options to maintain a healthy diet.

Nutrition consultant for Charlotte Stirling-Reed defined a balanced diet as a simple case of regular meals.

She specified that a variety of foods need to be consumed throughout the day, citing examples of fruit and vegetables, wholegrain carbohydrates, dairy and non-dairy protein.

Ms Stirling-Reed also warned to keep consumption of anything containing high quantities of fat or sugar to a minimum in order to maintain a healthy weight.

"These food groups are of extreme importance to ensure that people are getting the variety of nutrients that they need every day," she remarked, also claiming that no specific food will keep someone healthy and that a variety is the best option.

Helena Oades, nutritionist for educational workshop provider Zeal Health, recently claimed that a large portion of the UK population does not know what constitutes healthy food.
