Fry Swiss chard with cinnamon and pine nuts

Pine and saffron are great for frying vegetables in

Culinary spices are a great way of bringing something new to almost any dish - and they can be used in a wide range of very creative ways.

For instance, celebrity chef Stevie Parle suggested frying Swiss chard in a mixture of cinnamon, pine nuts, raisins and vinegar.

Sharing his ingredients for the recipe in an article for the Daily Telegraph, he also made use of the likes of garlic and saffron.

He explained that: "This is a great side dish, particularly with simply roasted chicken."

For those who like to offer their diners plenty of choices and alternatives, Mr Parle said that spinach can make a perfectly good alternative.

However, why not really go for it and try experimenting with new combinations of herbs and spices?

Our resident expert Chef Steve says that these ingredients offer a great deal of scope for this goal, which makes them his favourite.
