5 ways to use ground nutmeg this Christmas

Nutmeg is the perfect finish on hot chocolate

We love ground nutmeg, and our chef Steve especially likes trying out new ways to use the spice around Christmas. Below are five of the best.

1. Sprinkle on eggnog and hot chocolates

Everyone loves a warming drink after stepping in from the cold, and nothing quite spells out Christmas more than a mug of eggnog or hot chocolate with cream on top. To finish off the beverage, add a sprinkling of nutmeg.

2. Christmas pudding

If you are doing a set festive menu this December, or are revamping your desserts to include seasonal dishes, chances are Christmas pudding will make an appearance. Nutmeg and cinnamon are essential ingredients that will bring out the flavours of the almonds and fruit.

3. Add to spinach

A top tip is to add a small amount of ground nutmeg to spinach towards the end of cooking. This adds a rich flavour, so have the spice by your side when making dishes like ricotta and spinach tartlets.

4. Include in chutneys

Chutney is the perfect accompaniment to a cheese board following a meal, and you can impress your diners by making homemade chutney with a kick courtesy of ground nutmeg.

5. Pumpkin soup

Pumpkin soup tastes great when nutmeg is added, while the spice also works well with butternut squash and broccoli.
