Food can be central to 2012 events

Dont neglect the impact of culinary spices when promoting British meals

Food is likely to be central to the various celebrations planned across the country for the year, according to organiser of Love British Food 2012 Alexia Robinson.

She claimed that this is likely to be the "most patriotic year of our lifetimes" and asserted that the Olympic Games and the Diamond Jubilee present the perfect opportunity to show off the best of the nation's traditional meals.

However, rather than rehashing old fish and chip options, caterers could bear in mind the fact that offerings from other cultures are changing the British palette and having an impact on what is associated with the country's creative cuisine.

For instance, chicken tikka masala is often described as being the nation's favourite dish and demonstrates the influence of culinary spices from abroad.

"Even in tough economic times the public will rally behind British food if they are given a reason to," Ms Robinson commented.
