Chefs in the south west are creating every foodies dream

Lonely Planet rates the south west for its restaurants

The south-west's chefs are doing the region a great service by creating innovative dishes, it has been suggested.

In the new Devon, Cornwall and Southwest England edition of Lonely Planet, the region has been highlighted for its home-grown cooking talent.

There are a number of Michelin star-restaurants in the south-west, a region which author Oliver Berry described as "every foodie's dream".

He asked readers what could be better than freshly caught crab served with local wine in "spectacular settings".

"The south-west's culinary stars have none of the pretension you can find eating out in London," he added.

Local produce, which is often organic, was commended by the author. Indeed, cooking professionals may create a variety of different dishes using south-west produce by trying out a number of herbs and spices.

There are plenty of south-west destinations in which foodies may like to discover what dishes are on offer, including Bristol, Bath, Bournemouth, Gloucestershire, Cornwall and Devon.
