Royal Horticultural Society says herbs are growing in popularity

Royal Horticultural Society says home grown herbs and vegetables have grown in popularity

The Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) has said there is "an awful lot of interest" in home-grown fruits, vegetables and culinary herbs.

While attending the RHS Chelsea Flower Show last month, horticultural advisor Laurel Emms explained that people are still interested in knowing where their food comes from.

"They want to make sure it's organic [and] that there are no pesticides. People just enjoy growing their own food," Ms Emms stated.

"We see lots of young families who are very interested in growing, particularly [growing] their own food. [Also,] they're just interested in having a nice space to be outside."

Her comments follow a recent report from seed seller Burpee, which claims herbs, such as basil, oregano and parsley, are growing in popularity amongst gardeners.

Ms Emms continued: "[People] are realising that even in the smallest garden you can grow all sorts of things."
