Make a herb sauce to serve gnocchi

Gnocchi is perfectly complemented by basil

Sauces are a great way to bring something distinctive and new to a meal and can really help to set your restaurant apart from the crowd.

Here at Schwartz for Chef, we really advocate culinary innovation, so this is also a good way to experiment with exciting new flavour pairings.

In an article for the Independent, celebrity chef Mark Hix recommended serving gnocchi with a sauce of tomatoes and basil.

Our resident expert Chef Steve says that the scope for trying new things is one of his favourite things about culinary herbs and spices.

With this in mind, why not try making your own mark on the meal by using a completely different set of herbs?

This could really make the dish stand out for diners who are looking for something a little more unusual - and customers who prefer conventional options can also be catered for by offering the sauce as an alternative option.
