Chefs produce worlds largest burger

Chefs in the US break the record for the worlds biggest burger

Americans are known for the love affair with adventurous recipes and the traditional burger, but ambitious grillers in California combined the two to create the world's largest commercially available hamburger.

Weighting in at 777lbs, the Goliath of burgers consists of a 110lb bun, 20lbs of onions, 12lbs of pickles and 30lbs of lettuce and outweighs the previous Canadian record holder at 595lbs.

"The old record was held in Canada and we wanted to bring it home to America on the Fourth of July," commented Nick Nicora of Ovation Food Services.

Despite taking 15 hours to cook, caterers were generously selling portions for under $1 (62 pence) with all proceeds going to charity.

Home chefs looking to try their hands at a miniature version of the gastronomic heavyweight were advised on the perfect seasoning for a simple burger.

Bryan Dooley, chef of US-based Black Mountain Barbecue, suggests cooking steaks and burgers with a rub of salt, black pepper and granulated garlic.

"This simple approach really allows the flavour of the meat to shine through," he explained.
