Coriander and chillies make a great laksa

Chillies can be added to a broth

There are so many ways in which caterers can make sure any new additions to their restaurant's menu truly stand apart from the crowd.

Our resident expert Chef Steve recommends researching other culinary cultures, which he says is one of his key professional inspirations.

In an article for the Guardian, celebrity chef Nigel Slater suggested making a summer vegetable laksa.

This dish is inspired by Asian cooking traditions and included culinary spices like coriander among the ingredients - as well as garlic and chillies.

"Make the paste as spicy as you wish by altering the amount of chillies," Slater commented, adding: "Two small red chillies should give quite a kick."

Here at Schwartz for Chef, we really advocate innovation - so why not bring your own unique twist to the meal by coming up with your own flavour pairings.

This should give it a really distinctive edge that could really keep diners coming back for more.
