Corn on the cob can be spiced up

Dont be afraid to spice up veg

When serving fried or barbecued dishes it would be easy for caterers to add a corn on the cob prepared in the same old way as expected.

But wouldn't it be great to really make this vegetable truly stand out as an exciting and unexpected addition to a meal?

One way in which to do this was suggested by Australian celebrity chef Bill Granger in an article for the Independent.

He recommended rolling the corn in mayonnaise over a mix of chilli flakes and finely grated Lancashire or Wensleydale cheese.

Acknowledging that this will be ridiculously messy for diners, he explained that it is inspired by a similar meal he recently tasted off the north shore of Hawaii.

Instead of mimicking his ideas - the really adventurous chef can adapt this premise and make it their own.

Coming up with your own flavour pairings of herbs and spices is an easy and potentially innovative way to do this.
