Introduce herbs to a clam soup recipe

Bay leaves and parsley are great for clam soup

Culinary herbs offer so much to caterers, as they can bring out the best of other ingredients at the same time as adding a distinctive new flavour to a dish.

Indeed, our resident expert Chef Steve says that this versatility is one of his favourite things about herbs and spices - and there are countless examples to back this up.

Celebrity chef Bill Granger recommended using a bay leaf and a finely chopped garlic clove in a recipe for flageolet bean and clam soup.

In an article for the Independent, he also put forward the idea of scattering the finished dish with parsley as a serving suggestion.

Along with a helping of crusty bread, this can soak up the tasty juices so that diners are not missing out on anything.

However, why not try coming up with a different combination of herbs in order to bring your own unique twist to the meal?
