Take inspiration from TV shows

Mad Men could be a valid sauce of inspiration for chefs

When looking for new ideas to prompt another adventurous recipe, why not look to unusual sources of inspiration?

Recipes from other chefs are not the only place new food ideas could come from, so why not think about the meals consumed by characters of popular television shows?

Authors of the Unofficial Mad Men Cookbook Judy Gelman and Peter Zheutlin took scenes from the titular drama as their springboard for a collection of over 70 dishes.

Indeed, McCormick's resident expert Chef Steve says researching other culinary cultures is one of his key inspirations, so taking a television depiction of the 1960s may be an unusual starting point.

One dish shared in the Daily Telegraph is freshwater prawns with snailbutter and preparation simply involved mixing Pernod, butter, shallots, garlic, parsley, salt and pepper in a bowl and serving with prawns in their shells.

Have you ever been prompted to try a dish you saw on film or in a television show?
