Keep Christmas meals exciting with alternative dishes

Some professional chefs may feel disappointed there is little demand for their inspirational recipes as people hark back to standard dishes like turkey when they eat out at Christmas.

One option caterers bored of preparing the same old dishes could try is offering alternative dishes alongside the norm.

In an article for the Daily Mail, Jamie Oliver sympathised with this position, claiming: "There'd be a riot at my house if I took the turkey away, but an extra option is always well received."

Just because the old favourites remain popular, doesn't mean a new dish can't be attempted for the first time.

McCormick's resident expert chef Steve says attempting something different is one of his key inspirations, so why allow Christmas turkey to dampen your passion?

Oliver recommended roast venison cooked with cinnamon garlic and ginger and left in the oven until it is "outrageously tender".

He added red wine is a "brilliant" option to go with this meal and the meat's rich and fruity preparation could still keep people in the festive spirit.
