Introduce oregano to a pie

Use herbs when cooking pies

The many possibilities that are presented by considering the inclusion of culinary herbs in a recipe for an old favourite pie dish should really not be overlooked by professional caterers.

Our resident expert Chef Steve says that the versatility of herbs and spices is one of his very favourite things about the ingredients.

Celebrity chef Rose Prince suggested introducing oregano in to the mix when preparing a raised pork, apple and elderberry pie.

In an article for the Daily Telegraph, she explained that these should be added at the filling stage - and this could really let the herb's flavour infuse with the other ingredients.

She went on to claim that her recipe: "Does not adhere to the classic recipe, but has onion, apple, cider brandy and sour elderberries in the filling (the pie can also be made without the last)."

Professional caterers should not be averse to experimenting and trying to bring their own unique twist and adding something really outre.
