Spices add a kick to delicious soups

Plenty of spices can be used in soups

Culinary spices could be the perfect way for chefs to add an extra kick to soups on their winter menu this year.

There are plenty of ideas out there and the Birmingham Patch has published a recipe for green lentil soup with coconut and warm spices.

This requires flavourings such as thyme, turmeric, ground cinnamon, cloves and nutmeg to be added to onion and lentils to create a spicy dish.

Coconut milk and vegetable and chicken broth are used to form the base of the soup, along with some butter, garlic cloves and salt and pepper.

If this does not appeal, Babble's recipe for spicy cosy chilli bean soup may be the perfect choice and this makes use of chilli powder, cayenne pepper and dried spices.

Alternatively, those inspired by Jamie Oliver may want to give his spicy parsnip soup a try and they need coriander, chilli and garam masala to do so.
