Adventurous recipe for chilli crumble cake

Add chilli to a sweet crumble recipe

Lovers of adventurous recipes may wish to try serving a chocolate and pear crumble cake with chilli syrup.

The recipe was shared with the Daily Mail by chef and food writer Annie Bell.

For the cake, she recommended whisking oil, eggs and orange juice in a bowl with Tabasco the juices of chopped pears.

She then suggested sifting together flour, cocoa and baking powder and adding this to the mixture.

Ms Bell advised throwing in peeled and sliced pears with lemon juice and sugar, before pouring everything into a buttered cake tin.

Before baking, she said crumble ingredients should be processed and scattered over the cake surface.

Her serving suggestion of chilli syrup involves slicing one chilli into strips, throwing the core and seeds away. This should then be boiled in a pan with orange juice and caster sugar.

Recipes by Ms Bell regularly appear in Sainsbury's Magazine and the Sunday Telegraph and she has also published 13 cookery books.
