Cinnamon and cloves are perfect in a hazelnut panfort

Cinnamon is ideal for puddings

There are so many great things that culinary spices can offer the professional caterer.

Our resident expert Chef Steve says that - along with herbs - one of his favourite things about these ingredients is the fact that they can bring something new to almost any dish.

Food stylist and photographer Jan Roberts-Dominguez suggested adding a range of spices to the ingredients for a hazelnut panfort.

In an article for the Everett Herald, she specified that cinnamon and cloves could be the perfect option.

Preparation involved combining these ingredients with flour, cocoa powder and orange peel - mixing them all together in a large bowl.

However, in order to ensure that your restaurant's menu offerings really stand apart from the crowd, why not try coming up with your own flavour ideas for the dish?

Simply think of what any other ingredient may bring to the mix to complement the overall flavour - vanilla pods could be worth thinking about.
