Oregano and curry powder spice up beans and eggs

Pulse recipes are a great alternative to pasta and potato carb dishes

Cooks thinking of flavour ideas for alternative dishes to pastas may wish to consider trying a pulse recipe.

Celebrity chef Bill Granger shared a recipe for baked beans with eggs with the Independent.

"Pulses are a guilt-free comfort food and are such a great canvas for other flavours - and they lend themselves more towards spices and tomato-based sauces rather than anything heavy and creamy," he explained.

For this particular meal, Mr Granger suggested frying pancetta and garlic in a pan with olive oil and garlic.

Anchovies, thyme, oregano, curry powder and tomatoes are then added until a thick sauce is formed.

The chef then recommended introducing cannellini beans to this mixture, seasoning to taste and cracking a raw egg on top before baking.

Mr Granger has produced three television series that have been broadcast in 30 countries around the world.

His final serving suggestion was to garnish with flat-leaf parsley.
