Add tarragon to a chicken casserole

Tarragon is a key ingredient in many dishes

Culinary herbs are highly versatile ingredients that can bring a new taste to almost any meal.

Our resident expert Chef Steve says that this is precisely why - along with spices - they are among his very favourite ingredients.

However, they can also be used as the main ingredient in a whole host of dishes - and this can be a great way to add variety to a restaurant's menu.

Authors of the Leon Family & Friends Book 4 cookbook Kay Plunkett-Hogge and John Vincent suggested making a casserole with chicken and tarragon.

In an article for the Independent, they explained the thinking behind using this particular combination.

"Tarragon is a perfect foil for chicken, adding sweetness and bags of flavour," they commented, adding: "Here, we've used it to add a big herby accent to a one-pot supper."

However, adventurous caterers could always try coming up with new flavourings of their own creation.
