Add herbs to baked mushroom rice

Herbs complement mushrooms beautifully

Culinary herbs like garlic and thyme are key ingredients in a recipe for baked mushroom rice.

Celebrity chef Nigel Slater shared his preparation tips for the dish in an article for the Guardian.

He said that while it is not quite a risotto, it remains a similar - and very tasty - rice offering.

This could be the ideal thing for professional caterers to prepare, as it can be left to bake while work continues on other meals.

Slater explained that: "The consistency of the finished dish depends on the whim of the rice and the stock."

Checking on how it is going towards the end of cooking will give you more of an idea of how it is doing - and adding a little more stock will thicken the mixture if necessary.

However, don't be afraid to come up with your own alternative takes on the meal buy trying different combinations of herbs and spices.
