Vegetarian dishes can be as good as traditional meat alternatives

Vegetarian dishes can be as good as traditional meat alternatives

The number of people adhering to a strict vegetarian diet has undoubtedly increased over the past few decades.

People now expect interesting vegetarian dishes on menus when they eat out. In fact, the vegetarian staple of mushroom stroganoff has fallen out of favour with many restaurateurs as they create ever more interesting non-meat dishes.

The same is true at home. Having a vegetarian meal is no longer something to be sneered at and people have started using more varied combinations of culinary spices in order to boost their vegetarian dish repertoire.

One of the key things to bear in mind is that with new mock-meats and the vast array of fresh vegetables available in supermarkets, it is really easy to adapt traditional, meaty meals by giving them an entirely vegetarian twist.

So when making a cottage pie, why not try replacing the beef with chickpeas, or turn a steak and ale pie into a squash and ale pasty?
