Construct a falafel with culinary spices

Cumin is essential in falafel

Many culinary spices have their roots in the cooking traditions of other cultures and - as a result - are a staple in dishes such as falafel.

Offering this kind of variety could prove to be a hit with diners, as well as providing some variety in preparation that can make things more enjoyable for the chef.

Our resident expert Chef Steve says researching other culinary cultures is one of his key professional inspirations.

In an article for the Daily Telegraph, cookbook author and food director of Sainsbury's Magazine Sarah Randell suggested the use of cumin, coriander and parsley when preparing falafel.

However, here at Schwartz for Chef, we really advocate a more innovative approach - so why not try coming up with your own flavour pairings?

This could really set your restaurant's menu apart from the crowd and keep diners coming back for more - especially if unusual options are offered alongside more traditional dishes.
