Vegetarian Society trumpets varied meat free BBQ meals

The Vegetarian Society recommends trying meat free BBQ recipes

As summer approaches and people are keen to try out adventurous recipes on their barbecues, the Vegetarian Society has asked them to give some thought to meat-free alternatives.

Liz O'Neill, the group's head of communications, hoped to dispel the idea that barbecues were a meat dominated affair, listing a variety of meat free alternatives.

"From halloumi kebabs and spiced sweet potato slices to hot barbecued aubergine with fresh chive vinaigrette, the Vegetarian Society's website has a wealth of recipes," she offered.

The group's website offers a recipe for veggie kebabs, which sees onions, tomatoes and courgettes covered in an oriental sauce of ginger juice, garlic, sea salt and ground black pepper.

Ms O'Neill offered some advice to non-vegetarians presiding over the grill: "Vegetarians will really appreciate it if you keep a separate barbecue just for meat-free food and… make lots more than you think you'll need because the meat eaters always end up eating some."
