Turmeric is good for the immune system

Turmeric could be good for the immune system

Turmeric is one culinary spice that is said to bring certain health benefits with it, according to an expert.

Herbalist and nutritional therapist Andrew Johnson specified it is particularly effective in terms of giving the immune system a boost.

Spices are often linked with medical benefits, as research recently carried out at the United Arab Emirates University and published in the Journal of the American Association for the Study of Liver Diseases last year identified a link between saffron and reduced cancer risk, with further studies currently underway.

Mr Johnson explained turmeric offers a panacea for the immune system and is associated with detoxes.

"It's a pretty amazing thing, so that's another one I'd recommend people consider," he commented, adding: "It also works in cooking. Add it to the end of cooking if you like, so it's not heated so much."

He expressed optimism that there is an increasing awareness of the health benefits of culinary herbs among the general public.
