Herbs can be slow cooked for an intense flavour

When turning to culinary herbs to add a unique flavour to a dish, it could also be worth giving careful consideration to the method of preparation.

Certain preparation techniques can really help to unlock the intensity of the ingredients and slow cooking could be perfect for some recipes.

Indeed, they are noted for their capacity to bring out the natural flavours of other elements of a recipe, so allowing them longer to do this could work wonders.

Celebrity chef Bill Granger advised taking this approach in a mutton neck chops with root vegetables meal detailed in the Independent.

He also recommended the use of garlic in the dish, setting some wild garlic leaves aside to use as a garnish when serving.

Care was suggested while preparing the mutton, as it is difficult to place an exact time on how long it will need to cook for, so it is best to keep an eye on it throughout the process.
