UK visitor increase to boost restaurant jobs

A rise in visitors is expected to boost hospitality employment

The anticipated increase in visitors coming to the UK is going to create a number of new employment opportunities in the foodservice and hospitality industry, it has been suggested.

Communications manager at People 1st Oksana Higglesden said restaurants and hotels "will do quite well" out of the government's pledge to create 50,000 more jobs in the travel and tourism industry.

"It is a very exciting sector to be in," she remarked, adding the country has entered the "golden decade of sports", which includes the London Olympics in 2012 and will require the support of chefs and other hospitality workers.

Ms Higglesden added the area is "bucking the trend" seen in employment across the UK at present, as it is generating growth at a time when many others are implementing cutbacks.

Speaking at a Downing Street reception earlier this month, David Cameron said the royal wedding and the Queen's diamond jubilee will also help attract more visitors to the UK.
