Olympics to prompt modern British recipes trend

Restaurants are preparing for the London Olympics

The majority of firms in the British hospitality industry will be using modern British recipes to attract customers when the London Olympics take place in 2012.

This is according to new research conducted at the International Food Exhibition on behalf of Caterersearch, which revealed 56 per cent of pubs, hotels, restaurants and catering companies will be serving up more domestic dishes to draw in diners.

Visitors from all over the world are likely to come to Britain to take in the sporting event and 52 per cent of the firms questioned believe the Olympics present a realistic business opportunity.

A total of 51 per cent said they intend to introduce themed menus and 47 per cent plan to produce tailored packaging - none of the businesses asked said they will be taking no action to capitalise on the Olympics.

The first venue for the sporting event was opened last week, with the British cycling team testing out the Velodrome, which can hold 6,000 spectators.
