Cumin and carrots combine to make a great salad

Carrot and coriander isnt restricted to soup

Chefs looking to bring a new range of salad options to their menu have a wide variety of sources they can turn to for inspiration.

In an article for the Independent, celebrity chef Mark Hix recommended a carrot and cumin variety.

He explained that: "I love serving this salad either as a stand-alone salad for a mezze-type buffet or with meat or fish like red mullet."

Preparation involved heating the carrots in a saucepan with orange juice, vegetable stock and the culinary spice.

Our resident expert Chef Steve says one of his favourite things about herbs and spices is the scope they offer caterers for innovation.

With this in mind, you could try bringing your own twist to a dish by attempting to come up with your own unique flavour pairings.

Coriander works very well in carrot soup, so why not try applying it to this recipe, or more adventurous options such as cinnamon?
