TV chef Bal Arneson promotes healthy Indian recipes

TV chef Bal Arneson promotes healthy Indian cuisine

Celebrity chef and Indian food advocate Bal Arneson has advised home cooks to use culinary spices to make healthy dishes.

The host of the Spice Goddess TV-show is known for her dishes and cookbooks that make prodigious use of paprika, turmeric, coriander, and mustard seeds.

However, she has expressed dismay for the way in which Indian cuisine was generally seen.

"I spent hours and days and weeks and months in [book shops] going through every single Indian cookbook. And one thing was missing in each book: No one talked about my Indian food growing up in the village - healthy Indian food," she told the Province.

"With a few spices, guaranteed in less than 20 minutes, you can make amazing food."

Despite having no formal training or experience in publishing, Ms Arneson managed to secure a publishing deal through enthusiasm alone - dropping off a completed manuscript at her publisher's office.
