Sir Cliff wows Tennessee chefs

Cliff Richards wows Tennessee chef with soul food

Inveterate pop star Cliff Richards has proven he's no slouch when it comes to cooking adventurous recipes, having been praised for his soul food by US chefs.

While recording an album of classic soul music, the singer was offered a job on the spot at a Tennessee restaurant for his culinary skills.

Producer David Gest and singers Freda Payne and Candi Staton bet the pop star that he couldn't cook soul food, Sir Cliff promptly proved them wrong when they stopped off at the Tennessee restaurant.

"I have never seen a white man cook Cajun fried rice and southern potato salad like Cliff. He's obviously got a lot of soul in that rather lean body of his," admitted Ms Staton.

Aspiring soul food chefs should consider making the Soul Food Cookbook's Creole chicken gumbo.

Seasoned with parsley, cayenne pepper and thyme, as well as salt and pepper, the flavoursome chicken is served alongside smoked sausage and oysters.
