Foodie couple enjoy life in Italian summer home

Family move to Italy for true foodie experience

There are many reasons to own a home in Italy but few would deny that moving for fresh culinary herbs, wine and ingredients is one of the best. 

Speaking with the Telegraph, Martyn and Margaret Lewis, from Oxfordshire, explained how they bought a six-bedroom farmhouse in the Florentine hills in 1999 and have since spent much of their time there.

The couple also bought eight acres of rosemary meadows as well as gardens with fig, apricot and cherry trees.

Mr Lewis commented: "We're spoilt for produce, between the wine, the steak from the Chianina cows, the truffles, sausages and the staples like prosciutto and pecorino.

"Here you only get fruit and vegetables that are in season, so you're getting the best of everything."

Cookbook authors Michael Ruhlman and Brian Polcyn recently offered their recipe for Italian sausages, with paprika, coriander and fennel seeds.
