Cookbook maestro unveils mushroom and pesto steak sauce

Cookbook author shares new steak sauce

Cookbook author Linda Gassenheimer has unveiled her adventurous recipe for steak.

With over 14 cookbooks under her belt, Ms Gassenheimer has no shortage of recipes to suggest, such as her latest one for a mushroom and pesto sauce with steak.

She suggests making your own pesto with basil, parsley, olive oil and Parmesan cheese, followed by adding in mushrooms to give it an "earthy flavour".

Meanwhile the steak itself is simply seasoned with salt and black pepper.

In her article for the Detroit Free Press, she suggested that a bold cabernet sauvignon would go with this savoury dish.

Britain's top chefs recently revealed their barbequing secrets as hot summer weekends approach.

Chef Vivek Singh challenged ambitious cooks to try roasting a whole goat with salt, chilli paste and pineapple juice, while chef Cesar Garcia said he favoured grilled sea beam and tuna.

However, pork was the leading choice for chefs Tristan Welch and Henry Harris.
