Pub restaurants popular with diners

Young people are among the UKs most frequent diners

Caterers who work in pub restaurants may find they are building a strong base of regular clientele with whom their adventurous recipes are a big hit.

New research from Horizons found an estimated one-fifth of the nation's food lovers that enjoy going out for a meal would select this option as their preferred choice.

This trend is more likely to result in the younger generation enjoying a meal out, as 82 per cent of 18 to 24-year-olds said they ate out at least once in the two weeks prior to the conduction of the survey.

"The fact diners are still eating out at least once a week demonstrates that eating out is entrenched in our way of life and is no longer necessarily seen as a treat," commented Emma Read, director of marketing and business development at Horizons.

Younger Brits' dining habits could form a source of inspiration, as the Spanish Young Chef of the Year award was recently granted to Ben Murphy for a leg and breast of duck meal.
