Chefs optimistic about Olympics

The Olympics could be used as a platform for creative cuisine

Chefs may be preparing new adventurous recipes to be unveiled in 2012 in time for the London Olympic Games.

A survey of members by the Association of Licensed Multiple Retailers' (ALMR) found there is optimism within the industry regarding the outlook for the next 12 months.

This is said to be fuelled in part by a range of high profile festivities, including the European Football Championships and the Queen's Diamond Jubilee celebrations, in addition to the Olympics.

Researching other cultures is one of the key inspirations for McCormick's resident expert Chef Steve and caterers could take advantage of the international nature of these events to prepare something different.

Managing director at Horizons Peter Backman recently suggested those who do so may experience an uplift in sales, particularly if they are located near the event venues.

"I really believe that the operators who know what they are doing will benefit from the feel good factor generated by the Olympic Games," one industry professional told the ALMR.
