Pork is versatile meat option

Chefs attempting to come up with new flavour ideas for their offerings may wish to consider the advantages of pork.

Foodservice trade manager for Bpex Tony Goodger claimed caterers are always on the lookout for new ways to prepare this meat.

He explained it is a good solution for those who want to produce more cost-effective meals without compromising on quality, which could be particularly relevant in the current economic climate.

Indeed, review site Square Meal recently stated gourmet meals will be in high demand in 2012, but people will still be looking to make savings on these options.

Mr Goodger asserted pork is both "versatile and economical", citing research that indicates it is a particularly popular choice among the nation's diners.

"Pork is ideal for many types of dish or menu," he remarked, adding: "Slow cooked belly pork can produce the ultimate indulgence meal, while collar makes for a great roast."
