Offer onion bhajis as a side serving with soup

Onion bhajis can make a great side serving with soup

Those who are thinking of ways in which they can make their soup starter dishes stand out could try creating new flavour pairings by offering the course with a side serving.

In an article for the Guardian, chef patron at Murano restaurant and consultant at the Whitechapel Gallery and Dining Room in London Angela Hartnett recommended offering onion bhajis with a parsnip soup.

She described it as "wonderful" and "spicy" and making the bhaji simply involved placing sliced onion in a bowl of flour, coriander, cumin and a beaten egg, before sauteing until it turns golden brown.

McCormick's resident expert Chef Steve says finding new flavour combinations is one of the most interesting characteristics of culinary spices and offering a side serving may be a new approach to the same idea.

Do you mix up your menu by offering foods that are not usually paired together as part of the same meal?
