Nettle soup requires a range of herbs

Herbs are essential in a nettle soup

Nettle soup could be a great option to serve up as a starter for diners who may like to begin their meal with a dish that is slightly different from the usual offerings.

Celebrity chef Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall shared his recipe for the soup in an article for the Guardian.

A wide range of culinary herbs are required, including chives and garlic.

These ingredients are widely celebrated for their versatility, as they can be used in a wide range of sweet and savoury foods.

Indeed, they are also noted for their ability to bring out the natural flavours of other ingredients, so this could make something like nettle soup really stand out.

Preparation involved frying onion, leek, celery and garlic in a pan of melted butter, before covering the crockery and allowing them to sweat. 

Rice and stock is then introduced to the mixture and brought to the boil, before stirring in the nettles and leaving the liquid to simmer.
