Use spices in taco rice

Tacos and tapas are defined by spices

Culinary spices are an essential ingredient when it comes to the creation of Tex-Mex style taco or tapas options.

Our resident expert Chef Steve says that researching the culinary traditions of other cultures is one of his key professional inspirations.

So it cannot hurt to follow his lead and try adding a few options inspired by other cultures to your restaurant's menu.

In an article for the Independent, celebrity chef Bill Granger recommended using chilli, cumin and paprika in the preparation of an Okinawan taco rice.

He explained that: "This unusual Tex-Mex-style bowl is a throwback to the days when Okinawa was home to an American military base."

Avocado, sour cream and tomatoes were also suggested as a serving option - and it could be worth checking out our Bick's range of relishes and salsa to complement your offerings.

Products such as Texan barbecue relish and Mexican hot chilli salsa could be perfect.
