Indian herbs can be indispensible for starters

Add garlic to a starter

Indian herbs can offer a wide range of benefits to the adventurous caterer - particularly if they are brought to recipes that they are not typically associated with.

Celebrity chef and author of the Hugh's Three Good Things cookbook Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall recommended adding garlic to a recipe for eggs, broccoli and garam masala.

Writing in an article for the Guardian, he said that: "Indian spice mix is often used to add fresh spicy flavours to a dish at the end of cooking."

Our resident expert Chef Steve says that the versatility offered by herbs and spices is one of his favourite things about them - so why not take advantage of this to bring something truly distinctive to your restaurant's menu offerings?

It is easy to overlook starters in favour of focusing on the development of truly innovative main meals - but it can be quite easy to come up with something new.
