Basil makes the perfect bruschetta

Basil and paprika are good choices for bruschetta

Bruschetta is a great dish for caterers to put together really fast - and being crusty on the outside and moist in the middle, it can make for the perfect appetiser or light bite option.

Indeed, the bread for this particular dish needs to be grilled quickly to get it just right - so it is perfect for the high-pressure environment of a professional kitchen.

Celebrity chef Nigel Slater has suggested adding culinary herbs like basil to olive oil in order to make a tasty flavour pairing that the individual bruschettas can be doused with prior to cooking.

In an article for the Guardian, he added that simple salt and pepper can also be useful for seasoning.

However, this is where caterers can really shine by coming up with their own unique take on the dish.
