London Olympics can promote British food

The Olympics can be used to promote the best of British food

Chefs could take advantage of the 2012 London Olympics to promote their most adventurous recipes, the comments of one expert suggest.

Organiser of the British Food Fortnight Alexia Robinson said next year's event will run at the same time as the games under the Love British Food 2012 banner.

She explained many pubs, restaurants and shops are being invited to hold promotions tied to this, adding it could be the only opportunity to share the official Olympic cake due to marketing restrictions.

"We have the biggest opportunity for a generation to show the world how wonderful British food is," Ms Robinson commented, noting Family Feasts will also bring the festivities to some of the more deprived areas of the country.

"A very special 2012 school competition is planned, news about which will be announced before Christmas," she remarked.

The tenth version of the Food Fortnight ran from September 17th to October 2nd this year - concurrent with Harvest Festival, the traditional celebration of national food.
