Gourmands favour Covent Garden

Covent Garden remains the most popular spot for diners

Lovers of creative cuisine wondering where the favoured hotspots for fine dining are may be interested to learn London's Covent Garden remains popular with gourmands.

Chief executive of online reservations service Livebookings Colin Tenwick stated this was demonstrated by statistics from his company.

Other popular areas in London were cited as being Mayfair, the City, Green Park, Soho and Chinatown.

He explained restaurants in regions with a high density of visitor arrivals are consistently successful, which in turn leads to the creation of more eateries to choose from in those locales and further enhances their reputation.

"Celebrity appeal is a huge factor when looking for a high-end restaurant," Mr Tenwick remarked, adding: "Celeb chef Gordon Ramsay remains as popular as ever, with four out of the ten most-booked venues for this year's [London Restaurant Festival] being Ramsay restaurants."

Earlier this year, the Mirror reported Ramsay was engaged in a bidding war with other famous chefs Rick Stein and Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall for ownership of a Cornish restaurant and they were collectively said to driving bidding up to £2 million.
