Is healthy eating too expensive

Healthy eating is top of many Brits' agendas. People generally want good food that won't get in the way of their fitness regimes.

But the recession has put untold pressure on people's finances and one of the first things that takes a hit is people's shopping baskets.

Dr Dawn Richards, head of clinical service at PruHealth, said: "People are only too well aware of the need to eat healthily, but financial constraints are making it difficult, resulting in people's health being negatively affected."

This doesn't mean, however, that tough economic times mean the abandonment of healthy eating.

With a little creativity, and the right culinary spices, people can easily keep their kitchen flare from becoming a damp squib.

A great way to cut the cost of your grocery shopping without undermining your healthy diet is to cut back on meat.

Meat is much pricier than veg and with the right culinary herbs, veg dishes can be just as tasty.
