Spices the finishing touch for homemade pita chips

Spices are used in one pitta chip recipe

Making pita chips can be a healthier option than using shop-bought crisps for dips, it has been suggested.

According to sacmag.com, homemade pita chips are less fattening and are quick and simple to create in the kitchen.

Smoked salt can be used to provide a flavour boost, but the publication advised budding cooks to match the right herbs and spices to whichever dip the pita is to accompany.

Rosemary should be used for blue cheeses, while cumin is the perfect spice to go with hummus.

It also advised that piling chilli-flavoured pita with guacamole is an ideal combination, as is using oregano when paired with onion dips, adding: "Let the flavour combinations go wild."

All it takes is two whole pitas and ten minutes of time to conjure up a tasty dish for four people.

Writing for BND.com, Jill Silva recently asserted that garam masala is an ideal spice blend to perk up meals, with pepper, dried chillies, cumin and coriander all important ingredients.
