Culinary spices used in vegetarian soup dish

A variety of spices are used in the soup recipe

Soup is an ideal dish for introducing the younger generation to different herbs and spices.

This is the view of blogger Karlynn Johnson, who told the Edmonton Journal she uses culinary spices to create a vegetarian meal that is ideal for her young son who does not like eating meat.

The dish contains cardamom and garam masala and Ms Johnson said it is "an easy way to introduce some spices to your family that they might not otherwise try", while at the same time not being overly spicy.

In addition to these two spices, the ingredients also include cumin, black pepper and ginger, while kidney beans and lentils provide a source of protein.

Spices are also used in a lentil soup recipe that recently featured in the Toronto Sun.

Jill Wilcox, in an article for Canadian Press Agency QMI, said cumin and coriander seeds are key ingredients of the meal, which is easy to prepare.
