Celebrity chef to cook for royal newlyweds

Chef Giada De Laurentiis to cook for Duke and Duchess of Cambridge

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are almost certainly used to the best meals, but celebrity chef Giada De Laurentiis has revealed that she hopes to wow them with some inspirational recipes.

In an interview with the Today show, Ms De Laurentiis revealed that she would be preparing the food at a charity polo event attended by the newlyweds on their visit to California.

"When I finally found out it was actually kind of a bummer. I couldn't tell anyone - I had to keep it hush-hush until their California itinerary was released," she explained.

Ms De Laurentiis says the food will evoke classic Californian cuisine, starting with her signature pea pesto crostini, seasoned with black pepper and sea salt, as well as her Chicken Milanese, combined with a tomato sauce infused with parsley and fennel.

The 40-year-old Italian chef explained that she was "overwhelmingly excited" by next month's event, adding that it was a "dream come true".

She admitted: "I'm just nervous about new people tasting my food... Any chef feels that way when people who aren't in their circle eat their food for the first time - you always cringe until the first bite happens."
