Jamie Oliver suggests summer pasta al fresco

Jamie Oliver suggest summer pasta al fresco

Outside dining is one of the nicest things about the British summer - when there aren't gale force winds and torrential rain landing on your patio that is.

And hosting an outdoor dinner party does not mean excluding everything except a BBQ, with the right culinary herbs and spices you can eschew grilled meat and try something a little lighter.

Celebrity chef Jamie Oliver, who has long campaigned for healthier snacks on the plates of British diners, suggested to readers of the Daily Mail a simple aubergine and tomato linguine - Italy is, after all, the home of al fresco dining.

One of the secrets to any decent pasta sauce is the restrained used of herbs and spices - such as parsley or basil.

In his recipe, Mr Oliver opts with the latter and a sprinkling of grated Parmesan.

Of course if you are also planning to have a summer BBQ at some point then all these herbs will come in handy when creating delicious meat or veggie burgers.
