Gardening resource launches potato recipe competition

Potatoes are one of the most versatile foods

The experts at online gardening resource LovetheGarden are asking members of the public for their most inspirational recipes for potato-based dishes.

Its latest competition follows a successful round involving cabbage recipes earlier this year.

The owner of the winning entry - melt in the mouth cabbage and mushroom pasties - won a £200 meal for two at a UK restaurant of their choice.

Now, the website wants to do the same for someone with a flare for cooking with potatoes.

George Hope, from LovetheGarden, said: "The potato is so familiar to everyone that we tend to take it for granted.

"So we want to celebrate the spud in all its forms, from sweet baby new potatoes right up to main crop Maris Pipers. If you've got a recipe for potatoes, we want to see it, and we'll reward your creativity and culinary expertise with a celebratory meal for two in your favourite restaurant."

Those wanting to make a tasty potato dish at home may want to look at Delia Smith's recipe for Gratin Dauphinois, which combines good-quality potatoes with garlic, double cream, milk, nutmeg and butter.

Alternatively, Jamie Oliver's 'Oliver's Twist' contains a recipe for Bombay Potatoes, which are flavoured with a range of spices, including ground cumin, garam masala and chilli powder.
