US celebrity chef caters for the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge

US-based celebrity chef has Giada de Laurentiis spoke out about her experience of serving creative cuisine to the newlywed Duke and Duchess of Cambridge on their trip to Santa Barbara. 

During a charity polo event attended by 3,500 people, the 40-year-old chef described the titanic effort that went into preparing food for the all the guests.

"I can honestly say that besides my wedding and the birth of my daughter, Saturday probably was the most exciting day of my life," she told the Today Show.

She continued: "I was just so honoured when I was asked to serve the main course to them, and I thought, 'I don't know, I'm going to be a bumbling idiot'."

Serving the royal couple "Californian cuisine with an Italian twist", Ms de Larentiis served canapes of gorgonzola, tomato and basil, with a starter of chopped salad and marinated shrimp.

For the main dish, the attendees were treated to a sweetcorn lasagne, seasoned with a pinch of nutmeg and bay leaves, and was followed by a dessert of strawberry-meringue trifle, tarragon-merlot and toffee truffles.
