Get creative with spices this Christmas says chef

One chef thinks nothing says Christmas like culinary spices

Christmas may be a busy time of year, but one chef has advised cooks to make the most of it by experimenting with culinary spices in the kitchen.

Stevie Parle, who has his own restaurant in London and is also the presenter of a TV series called Spice Trip, told the Birmingham Post he loves his "experimental kitchen" where he comes up with things like chocolate sauce with chili.

However, he insisted that spices can form part of more traditional Christmas fare and loves it when cinnamon and cloves come to the fore each December.

The expert particularly recommended nutmeg at present.

"It is really warming and all those things that you want to eat now, like potatoes and dark greens and all those type of things, all benefit from a bit of nutmeg," Mr Parle commented.

Our resident expert chef Steve also suggests using nutmeg on top of eggnog or hot chocolate, as well as in Christmas pudding.
